What Is Mozes? And Other FAQs

  1. If this is your first time on this Web site, you may wish to read What Is Mozes? before exploring further.
  2. In addition to this Help page, Mozes also maintains a list of Frequently Asked Questions (and their answers).

Keyword Pages

  1. Central to how Mozes works is the concept of a keyword - a string of letters and numbers. For any given keyword in our database, we store messages, resources, a list of mob members (people who have signed up to get additional information from the keyword's owner), and more information.
  2. Any keyword on Mozes has additional information available online, including public messages left for it, members of its mob, and other details depending on the type of keyword.
  3. To view this information, simply go to http://www.mozes.com/KEYWORD - where KEYWORD is the keyword in question.

Registering Your Account

  1. Several features are disabled until you have created and registered your account.
  2. Click on Register to bring up the registration form, then fill it out and submit it. You must fill out all fields, and indicate that you have read the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. (They may be legal boilerplate, but we do need to know that you have read them.)
  3. You will need a cell phone in order to register. As part of the registration process, we will send your cell phone a SMS message with a code for you to enter, to prove that you possess it. After registration, messages sent to you will usually be sent to your cell phone, and messages sent from your cell phone will be labelled as having come from you.
  4. After you register, you will be given a chance to set up your default keyword on Mozes. This is a keyword that anyone can text in, at no charge to you.
  5. After you finish setting up your keyword, or any time afterwards that you log in, you are automatically sent to your My Stuff page. At any time while you are logged in, clicking on the My Stuff tab will return you to this page.

Sending Content To a Friend

  1. Some keywords have media attached. Depending on how the keyword owner has configured the keyword, this media may or may not be sharable. If you have texted a keyword with media attached, log in to Mozes.com to see if you can share it.
  2. If the media was available to just anyone, it will usually be sharable. In that case, there will be a "Share" link you can click to send it to friends.
  3. If the media had some restriction on it, such as only being available if you subscribed to a keyword, you can still inform your friends about it. There will be a "Tell a friend" link in this case, allowing you to direct your friends as to how to get the content.
  4. Either way, the media can also be resent to your phone with the "Send To Phone" link. (Exception: this option will not appear if it is phone-incompatible media like a PDF.)
  5. When you are finished sending your selected content to your friends, or telling your friends about the content, select My Stuff to return to your content.
  6. Please make sure not to send messages to those who do not wish to receive them. We acknowledge that occasional misunderstandings will occur, but sustained or significant abuse of this feature is a violation of our Terms of Service and may get you barred from using Mozes in the future.

Editing My Name, Email Address, Password, and Other Account Settings

  1. You must be logged in to update your account settings. Log in first if you are not yet logged in.
  2. Select Settings located just below Search.
  3. From this page, you can edit almost any of your account settings.
  4. "Mobile phone quiet time" is an option to suppress messages sent to your cell phone - in the unlikely event that a keyword you have subscribed to starts sending out messages when you are trying to sleep, for example.
  5. For security reasons, due to repeated hacking attempts, at this time we require that changes to phone numbers be done by contacting support@mozes.com.

Logging In With Multiple Accounts At The Same Time

  1. Don't.
  2. No, seriously. Don't. We do not support being logged in with multiple accounts at the same time.

Managing Keywords and Subscriptions

Creating a Keyword

  1. You must first register your account before you are able to create a keyword. Also, at the end of registration, you will automatically be guided to create a keyword. See Registering Your Account
  2. Click on My Campaigns on the top navigation bar.
  3. Click on "Get a new keyword" in the top right.
  4. If you have a promotional code from Mozes, enter it now. Otherwise, you will have to purchase a keyword. (Don't worry, they're cheap.)
  5. You will be prompted to specify if your keyword is for Personal use, for the use of your Band, or for any Other use. Please be honest here - we have attempted to optimize the defaults for all three cases based on feedback from our users.
  6. Note that you can not create a keyword that is already owned by someone else, or that our software determines is in bad taste, or otherwise runs afoul of the regulations the cell phone carriers have asked us to impose. (Staying on top of said regulations so you don't have to worry about them is our job.)
  7. Once you have created a keyword, you will be presented with an interface to populate the details. You don't have to populate every section, but the more information you give, the better your keyword will look. See Editing a Keyword for more information.

Editing a Keyword

  1. Click on My Campaigns on the top navigation bar and a list of your keywords will appear.
  2. Click on the keyword you would like to edit. Alternately, select it with the radio buttons and click "Edit properties".
  3. Navigate from section to section and edit your content as needed. When you are satisfied with your edits click the Save button and your edits will be saved. Note that your changes will be lost if you leave this page, or move to a different tab, without saving.
  4. The Profile tab will mainly affect online properties of your keyword - that is, what people will see when they go to http://www.mozes.com/YOURKEYWORD
  5. If you are mainly concerned with what happens when people text your keyword, the Actions tab presents a distilled interface just for you.
  6. The Mob Members tab gives you a list of everyone who is subscribed to your keyword.

Broadcasts, and Comments From Phone

  1. Broadcasts allow you to send messages to anyone and everyone in your mob.
  2. You must have people in your mob before you can send a broadcast. Edit your keyword to allow people to reply Y to subscribe to your mob, then get your friends to subscribe. You may even wish to subscribe to your own mob.
  3. Click on My Campaigns on the top navigation bar and a list of your keywords will appear.
  4. Select the Keyword you would like to edit with the radio buttons, then click "Send Broadcast".
  5. You may send a broadcast either to your entire mob, or to a select list of individuals, or you may narrowcast to those who match certain criteria (for instance, everyone who lives in a certain state).
    • To send to everyone, just move on to typing in your message.
    • To select individuals, select the "Individuals or narrowcast" radio button, then uncheck everyone you do not wish to send to. (If anyone has subscribed to your keyword, and Mozes knows nothing about that person - we have been given no name, and the person has not registered - the person will show up as anonymous. Since we do not give out phone numbers, there will be no way for you to individually select any anonymous person as distinct from any other anonymous person.)
    • To narrowcast, select the "Individuals or narrowcast" radio button, then the Narrowcast tab, then enter your search criteria. We will perform the search just prior to sending your message (assuming any of your mob members match, of course).
  6. Enter your message, preview, and send.
  7. If you have mob members, you can also send broadcasts from your phone by texting "@@YOURKEYWORD broadcast_message" to 66937, replacing YOURKEYWORD with your keyword. Remember to use two @s!
  8. If you want to split your broadcast into two messages, include the string "<>" (without the quotes) in your broadcast. The text before the <> will be one message; the text after it will be a second message.
  9. If anyone texts "@YOURKEYWORD message" to 66937 (note the single @), or simply replies to your broadcast, the message will be forwarded to your keyword. (It may also be sent to your phone if you have a Personal keyword and the sender is a member of your mob.)

Special Powers

Special Powers

In addition to keywords Mozes supports a set of texting commands that allow you to do some very cool things.  You can send content to a friend or a group of friends with a single command, you can update your outgoing SMS message from your phone, you can make personal notes or add tags to your content on the fly.  Send your text command to 66937 (M-O-Z-E-S) to execute.

Opt-Out keywords

  1. Per cell phone company regulations, we are obligated to recognize a certain set of opt-out keywords - "stop", "quit", "unsubscribe", "cancel", "end", "exit", and "bye" - and to take certain actions if we receive any of them.
  2. If you text us any of these keywords from your cell phone, we will unsubscribe you from whatever mob you are currently subscribed to, or give you a menu interface if you are subscribed to more than one.
  3. We only allow this upon text received from your cell phone - not via "stop@NUMBER" from someone else.
  4. If you are tired of getting spammed by another Mozes user and are not subscribed to that user's keyword, let us know: we are considering adding @-blocking as a feature, but do not know how much if any demand there would be for this yet. (So far, we have received little interest.)
