Bob Schneider
Nothing is sacred in the mind of award-winning artist Bob Schneider. Case in point, his upcoming indie release, a gritty and gothic 24-song compilation entitled Fuck All You Motherfuckers which he is currently finishing up in the studio. His upcoming tour “Songs Sung And Played On Guitar With People In The Room” was chosen by his devoted fanbase and will also be the title of his new coming live solo acoustic album available.
Unlike performers who tend to hit only one personality note, Bob manages to embody and simultaneously lampoon every single persona you can think of within his two-hour show. When it comes to musical styles and genres, he is a daredevil of versatility – able to go from country crooner to screaming punk, salsa king to reggae mon, funk soul brother to white-trash rapper, all with perfect fluidity and commanding virtuosity. In addition to his chameleonic tendencies, Bob has the ability to persuade audiences to enjoy a kind of music they may have detested previously (such as bluegrass, perhaps, or polka). He routinely sells people on his lyrics, too, which often contain language and/or subject matter offensive to the average Dick or Jane. But it’s safe to say that offending the average Dick or Jane is not something he’s worried about. In fact, it’s probably a goal. He enjoys pushing the limits – his own but also yours—and there is no boundary, whether of musical sensibility or social morality, that he won’t dare to cross with at least one toe and a wicked grin.
After a terrifying plane crash left him uninterested in getting on planes, Bob chose to take a break from flying and focused on touring the United State an average of 200 days a year – both solo and with a live band. However, Bob has announced he is flying again and plans on touring the world in 2008 including Australia, Japan, and the UK for the very first time. When Bob is not making music or performing, he continues to create art through designing his own album covers, packaging, posters, and T-shirts, while also showcasing his fine art at galleries across the country. Bob and his band put out I’m Good Now in 2004 and The Californian in 2006 (Shockorama/Vanguard Records). Expect new music very soon, with a live album with DVD and another major record to be released in the spring of 2008.
Bob Schneider was born in Ypsilanti, Michigan, and raised in Munich, Germany. Not that it should matter, since Bob will never ask where you were born and doesn’t care. He only wants you to dig his music and rock your ass off at his shows. And the odds are very much in his favor that you will do both.
Left-handed as a child, Bob was quickly reformed by the nuns at the Catholic school he attended in Munich, and with his right hand he has gone on to pen well over a thousand songs (his first was called “Pussy Fever”) and to create stunning artworks laden with tortured imagery of phalluses and feces. So the nuns spent their time well. Performing since he was a tot, Bob gained his first real professional experience backing his musician father on drums at numerous moonlighting gigs throughout Germany. Thus a lifelong career was born, with Bob eventually stepping into his father’s frontman shoes and making his way to Austin, Texas, to pursue the dream. There he put together one band after another where he established his reputation as a frenetic and engaging lead singer, performing with an abandon, aggression and lack of pretension that he will be the first to admit is pretty much the opposite of his offstage self.
