Umphrey’s McGee Offers Extraordinary Fan/Band Experience with Mozes!

Umphreys3Jam band, Umphrey’s McGee, held the first of three shows in their experimental live project, “Stew Art Series (S2)”, on October 3, in Milwaukee, WI where an intimate crowd of just 50 eagerly shelled out $100 a ticket for a seat. Mozes-powered text to screen allowed fans to text in their song requests and love for the band to on-stage projection screens throughout the entire show, offering an extraordinary fan/band collaborative experience.

Picture 53Music web site, Jambase, said about the band’s experimental approach to live music, “As the concept unfolded, I realized that I’d sort of expected this thing to come off forced or stilted, or at least gimmicky, but the reality was that the texts served more to prevent the band from ever losing focus, probably the most common lame tendency in the jam band world. The musicians’ ability to switch gears quickly, combined with their well-honed onstage intra-band language, made the execution seem surprisingly natural.”

Umphreys_T2SAOL’s Music’s, Spinner.com, also said about the S2 Series, “It worked like this: fans submited their instructions for the direction of the jam (such as a color, adjective or even a concept like, for example, “stumbling home drunk”) via their Umphrey’s Mozes mobile interface. The band’s soundman, Kevin Browning, sorted through them in real-time and projected them onto a screen for the band to then interpret musically, mid-jam.”

This dynamic mixture of music and technology resulted in a 98% audience participation rate and over 300 text comments sent in! Also, check out the Umphrey’s McGee mobile fan list on Mozes!
