i've hit bottom. Now what?

is it possible to come to your senses without hitting bottom? In other words can I feel sure I am saved if I never had a bottom hitting experience?

Can all people receive grace like the prodigal son? What about a serial killer - can he be forgiven? tif so, it seems unfair
